How long does it take for a tattoo to heal?

The healing process of a tattoo is a crucial step that can greatly impact its final appearance. Generally, initial healing takes about two weeks, but the complete process can take up to a month. During this time, it’s essential to follow the aftercare instructions we provide after your tattoo session.

In the first few days after getting a tattoo, it will appear red and may feel slightly tight. This is completely normal and part of the natural healing process. During the first 24 hours, we recommend keeping the tattoo covered with a protective wrap to shield it from external factors. After that, for the next two days, gently wash the tattoo with mild, alcohol-free soap and lukewarm water, without applying any cream. It’s very important not to apply any ointment during the first day, as the skin needs to close completely. After this period, you can start applying ointment 2 to 3 times a day, ensuring you wash the tattoo beforehand.

So, the most important thing is maintaining the hygiene of the tattooed area to prevent infections or other complications. After that comes hydration.

Sunlight is the enemy of a fresh tattoo

Keeping your skin clean and hydrated is the most important step. We recommend using neutral soaps and fragrance-free creams, as products with strong chemicals can irritate a fresh tattoo. Avoid sun exposure, swimming pools, and intense physical activities that might irritate the tattoo. If you’re planning a trip or a beach vacation right after getting a tattoo, we strongly advise postponing it! Sunlight is the biggest enemy of a fresh tattoo.

One of the best pieces of advice we can give is to keep it simple. Avoid overloading your tattoo with different creams and lotions. Proper care means simplicity and consistency. Our recommendation is to carefully follow your artist's instructions and avoid experimenting with unfamiliar products. If you have any doubts, feel free to reach out to us – we’re here to help ensure your tattoo heals in the best possible way.

During the healing process, your tattoo might itch. This is normal, but it’s crucial not to scratch it! Scratching can damage the design and lead to infections. We understand that resisting the itch can be challenging, but try to be patient – the results will be worth it. Once your tattoo is fully healed, continue caring for it – keeping your skin hydrated and protecting it from the sun will help the colors stay vibrant for years to come.
